Trojan horse
A Trojan horse (or Trojan Horse) is a program which carries out instructions without the authorization of the user. These instructions are generally harmful to the user.
The Trojan takes the appearance of a valid program. But it contains actually a hidden illicit function, thanks to which it circumvents the computer securities. It penetrates thus by effraction in the files of the user to modify them, consult them or even to destroy them. The Trojan horse contrary to the worm does not retort itself. The Trojan horse can remain inoffensive during a few days, weeks or month and put itself in action at the programmed date. To avoid being infected by a Trojan it is advised to use an antivirus and a fire wall. Definitions close to Trojan: worm, virus, Trojan.
