DefinitionTerrestrial Numerical Television (TNT) is a numerical system of diffusion employing bands VHF-III/UHF already used for the diffusion of the hertzian chains analogical or TAT employing the network of the transmitters of television. DescriptionThe TNT maintains the principle of the diffusion by hertzian way where the programs are carried by the electromagnetic waves which are propagated in the lower atmosphere and the frequencies used are in the same bands as current analogical terrestrial television. Thanks to new technologies of digital transmission, the audio-visual chain will be thus completely digitized of the source (production) to the reception.
The digitalization of the audio and video signals will make it possible to profit from the techniques of compression and multiplexing. This last consists in assembling several programs or services to form only one composite signal. It will be treated to optimize its adaptation to terrestrial Canal+ of diffusion, from now on called multiplexing (it is the basic physical regrouping of the TNT).
The launching of the TNT will be done in March 2005 with a free bouquet of 15 hertzian numerical chains: TF1 M6, France 2, France 3, France 5 24h/24, ARTE 24h/24, Festival, the parliamentary, Direct chain 8, NRJ TV, NT1, TMC, M6 MUSIC, of the local chains.
The major interest is the reception of chains of television numerically, via a simple antenna rake, even of an antenna of interior, therefore without needing (in the 4/5 of the cases) parabola nor of cable television and ADSL. On the other hand, the TNT will require the addition of a terminal DVB-T (case adapter) being used to select, with its associated remote control, the desired chain.
