Restoration of furniture
The restorer of furniture is before a whole cabinetmaker of trade.
Its field of intervention includes/understands: expertise on the piece of furniture which is entrusted to him, the evaluation of work to be carried out, finally operations of conservation or restoration themselves. The profession of restoration of old pieces of furniture must comply with strict rules: to preserve the maximum of elements of the existing piece of furniture (to replace more than 20% of the piece of furniture by new parts downgrade this one irremediably), to carry out all the operations of restoration with a view to the reversibility (furniture will be able to undergo in its course of other restorations), to use the techniques and materials which correspond at the time where the piece of furniture was built: that excludes for example the recourse to the modern adhesives, the use of certain types of platings (distinct platings for example lorque the piece of furniture was carried out with sawn platings).
