Png - Portable Network Graphics
Format of image of Bitmap the free type of rights.
Format png is a format of display file of Bitmap type (not-vectorial). It conceived about the years 1995 in order to provide a free alternative to format GIF. Because this format is the property of the Unisys company, also owner of the algorithm of compression LZW, which obliges each software publisher handling this type of format to pour rights to them. Format png supports all the styles of Bitmap images : The images Black and White (16 Bits) Images in True Color (real colors - 48 Bits) Images with the Indexed colors (images having a pallet of 256 colors, like the GIF) The png also supports the Alpha transparency. I.e. that certain pixels of color (not-transparencies) can be seen allotting a level of transparency. Thus, some is the allotted background (here on a Web page), the pixels having a Alpha transparency, will marry with the color of the background. A little like the icons in True Color for Windows XP.
