Born on December 28, 1969 in Helsinski, it studies data processing at the university there, in particular by using the system Minix, a clone of Unix created at teaching ends. Student, it forms the plan to create a free and free alternative to the cores for operating system of at the time existing the UNIX type. In August 1991, it announces on the newsgroup comp.os.minix the creation of the Linux core
