Licence
Licence: permission.
Authorization delivered by an administration, an authority, a holder of rights. Exaggerated freedom. Rank delivered by a higher educational establishment. In data processing: authorization to use a program. The user who pays to use a software or which is recorded as user near the creator of this program does not acquire the program itself. If he were purchaser, it would have the right to modify the code of this program, which is seldom authorized. It buys in fact a licence, i.e. the right to use this program. This licence can comprise important limitations, for example to make it possible at the same time to install the application only on one computer. The text of the licence (often called EULA, "End To use Agreement Licence") must be provided to the user, in printed form or in the form of a file which is posted at the time of the installation. It is to better do the effort to read it: it can for example mention that the application - as much of free programs - will install a form or the other of publicity on the machine host, or y to place programs which will provide discreetly to one or the other firm of information on the computer operations of the user. To buy occasion CD or another support making it possible to install a program thus does not authorize to use this program if the sale does not include, in a valid way, the sale of the licence. Without this licence, the purchaser is owner only support (CD, diskette...), he is not an authorized user. He does not have right to any assistance on behalf of the firm which has the rights on the software, does not have right to a tariff reduced for the updates, and is regarded as an illegal user.
