 LCD

Definition

Acronym for the English expression "Liquid Crystal Display", resulting in "liquid crystal display"

Description

Screens LCD use liquid crystals, which under the effect of an electrical current pass from a transparent state to a polarizing state (making it opaque under certain conditions). Used for a long time in many objects of the everyday life (Computers, watches, telephones...) for its very low fuel consumption in energy, this technology improved thanks to technology TFT, at the point to be on the way to relegate the cathode ray tube to the row of antiquities. First screens LCD-TFT have reserved summers, because of their raised production cost, with the only portable computers. It were then divided into two categories, active matrix screens, of good quality but still very expensive, and the passive matrix screens, less expensive but having a slow response time. Screen LCD-TFT with active matrix is désormai become the standard and the prices do not cease dropping. The generalization of the flat-faced screen in data processing as well as the development of the flat-faced screen television sets let think that it will soon completely replace our tube screens catodic.
