 IP routing source

Definition

The routing source consists, for the shipper of a package, to define the road taken by this package on the network.

Description

At the time of the sending of a package on Internet the road is usually selected with stolen by the routers treating the package. In the case of the routing source, contrary, the stages followed by the package until its destination are fixed by the shipper. In the case of a routing source strict, the road will have to define all the routers between the source and the destination. This method is used very little, because very heavy. The routing source relative, as for him, consists in fixing certain stages, without defining the whole road. A routing source relative will take this form: Sender: With Recipient: B Via: C The IP routing source has various applications: - Cartography of the network: Traceroute rests on the Routing Source. - network Diagnoses: The routing source makes it possible to test a bond between two machines since one third distant machine. - Optimization of the use of the network: It can sometimes be judicious of router a part of the nonurgent traffic through a bond of worse quality, in way to release from the band-width on a bond of better quality for the remainder of the traffic. - Hacking/Hacking: The routing source can make it possible to a pirate to reach a network private by using a machine connected at the same time to Internet and the internal network like footbridge.
