Henri Bergson
Henri Bergson (1859-1941) taught in Clermont-Ferrand, before leaving to Lyon to support his thesis, which will be published under the title of immediate Data of the conscience.
He is the philosopher of the intuition of the duration. At side of the scientific knowledge, which proceeds by analysis, it thinks that a place is possible for a métaphysqiue, of which the tool is the intuition. The latter, in accordance with the Cartesian and Kantian tradition, indicates the direct data entry of a singular object. It consists to apprehend it inside, in an immediate way, while being put at its place. Of course, such a method finds its field of application in a way privileged in the field of knowledge of the man, and especially of the self-knowledge. The object which lends itself best to a knowledge of the inside, it is me. What discovers the intuition of ego, it is that it lasts. Indeed, it is characterized by a psychological succession of states which extend in the duration. This succession continues shows us the true duration, to distinguish from time such as it is analyzed by the scientists. The difficulty, with any intuition, it is that it is difficult to express. The remarkable language of Bergson makes it possible to compensate for this difficulty.
