GéoPortail
Definition
GéoPortail is a Web site of the Public utility which makes it possible each one to sail in 2d on the air photographs and charts IGN of France.
Description
Géoportail of public utility is a site of reference for the access to the public geographical data mobilizing the resources of an allowing geocatalogist: - the access shared between administrative services of the geographical data useful for the public action - the easy access of the citizens to the localised information of public interest and its cartographic visualization, - consultation on line with Co-visualization for the benefit of all: services of the State, public bodies, companies and citizens - coherent cataloguing being based on standards ISO/OGC via metadata, of the whole of the data returned interopérables and available by using the resources of the geocatalogist, - the development of the services and the diffusion on line for the benefit of the public bodies, the citizens and the companies. Géoportail makes it possible each one to sail in 2d on the air photographs and charts IGN of the commune or the place of its choice. Strolls in 3d is scheduled for October 2006. Beyond the visit of all the recesses of the own territory with a precision offering a pixel to 50 cm, this new site of public utility is also a door of "geographical" entry to information whose richness and diversity will not have as a limit, that those that each holder of information will want to give him well. To identify zones at the risks, zones easily flooded, zones of environmental protection, to know the Plans of urban displacements (PDU) of such or such agglomeration as any other data of town planning will be soon possible in some clicks. Always by the means of a geographical approach, to count the paths, the gardens, the caves which mark out a Sunday exit, to seek a school, a museum, a sporting course, in a district will quickly become a play of child. These enrichments, called "trades layers", are held by public services, communities, associative groupings... Once géoréférencés, this information is integrated in Géoportail thanks to the cataloguing ensured by the BRGM. Thus Géoportail becomes a tool of life practises increasingly complete with the passing days. The main line operator of GéoPortail is the IGN (National Geographical Institute). The GéoPortail.fr site was inaugurated on June 23, 2006 per Jacques Chirac. GéoPortail is similar with the software Google Earth, although this last has a world cover and exploits photographs satellite (and not air).
