Data-processing law and freedoms
Definition
Law n° 78-17 of January 6, 1978 relating to data processing, the files and freedoms.
Description
This law was voted following the revelation of the SAFARI project, in 1974, which aimed creating a single identifier for all the French and at inter-connecting the name files of the administartion. It frames and controls the collection, the processing and the conservation personal "or" personal "data known as". It also founds a commission charged to take care of the respect of this law: the CNIL. The law also defines the rights recognized to the people to consult, modify or remove personal information with regard to them on a file.
