Accessibility is a universal right defined by Article 9 of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities adopted in 2006. The different types of handicaps were highly variable , a standard was created in 1997: the Web Accessibility Initiative ( WAI) World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) . This standard provides a whole range of technical solutions to improve accessibility for people with impairments of a website when it was created or throughout its life . The W3C also issued recommendations to improve the content of websites . These recommendations called the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines ( WCAG ) and gives a series of directive allows webmaster to make their sites more accessible .
