Travelling ball
Peripheral intended to accurately represent displacements in the two axes of a mobile ball on itself, recorded thanks to a mechanical or luminous device, by displacements homologous with one cursor to the screen.
Device of consistent pointing in a rather heavy ball resting on a mechanical device made up of rollers recording in the two axes the various rotations from this one imposed by the user. The movements detected on the level of the rollers supporting the ball are transmitted to the pointer which will carry out with the screen the movements homologous with those with the ball of the trackpad. It acts of a device less cumbersome than the mouse and which was adopted primarily for the portable computers. The mechanical device currently tends to being replaced by the capture of displacements of a pencil of light under the action of the rotation of the ball.
