Founder of the movement and the Foundation for the free Software as well as project GNU. Joint author of licence LPG.

Description

Born on March 16, 1953 in Manhattan, Richard Matthew Stallman makes studies higher of physics than the University of Harvard of 1971 to 1974. For this same period, it works as researcher at the laboratory of artificial intelligence of MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). In 1975, it creates the text editor Emacs. It will create later the compiler C "GCC" and the debugger "Gdb". It creates the Foundation for the free Software (Free Software Foundation) in 1983 and leaves MIT in January 1994 to be devoted fully to project GNU.
