PCMCIA
Definition
Founded in 1989, this consortium of more than 300 companies of the data-processing sector encourages the development of standards making it possible to extend the capacities of reception of peripherals of the portable computers.
Description
By extension, a chart PCMCIA is a peripheral with the format credit card (54mm X 85mm) equipped with a connector of 68 pins, making it possible to increase the memory of the computer (charts of the type I), to connect it a network (charts of the type II) has or has a hard disk (charts of the type III). Today, PCMCIA does not study only any more the connections of peripherals to the portable computers, but also in the numerical cameras, cameras and PDAs.
