Recursive acronym for "GNU'S Not Unix" or "GNU is not Unix".
Description
Project GNU (to pronounce "gnou" with one G audible) began in 1984 pennies the initiative from American Richard Stallman His goal was to create a free and complete operating system. As the operating system UNIX owner was already used by many data processing specialists and that its qualities were largely recognized, GNU was developed with the preoccupation with a perfect compatibility with UNIX in the shape of individual software components. When the core (English kernel) Linux was available to the beginning of the years 1990, the bringing together of project GNU with this last took place quite naturally to give rise to GNU/Linux, a free operating system decorated of many software.
