Definition

It is a regrouping of two waiters or more, in order to create a "super virtual waiter".

Description

The theory of the clusters date of the beginning of the Seventies. A cluster provides functions of high availability and distribution of load. It facilitates also the evolutionarity of the rise in load. Originally to create in the middle of the Eighties by Digital Equipment Corporation, under the name of VAXCluster. In 1995, an agreement of partnership signed between Microsoft and DEC, give rise to Windows NT 4 Enterprise Server (code name: wolfpack); version which integrates MSCS (Microsoft Cluster Serveur). There are today solutions cluster under Windows 2000/2003, Linux, Unix, OpenVMS, AS/400. Several manufacturers propose solutions owners (Tandem, Siemens, Veritas, Novell, IBM, Sun...). Lotus also provides a software solution to create a cluster Notes between machines of different horizons (AS/400, Netware, Windows, Unix, Linux...).
